Prize Winning Gardens
At the end of the 19th century, Onslow Square was known as an outstanding example of the landscape gardener's art, particularly praised for the diversity of planting and the open playing area, although its 'sinewy paths' weren't appreciated by everybody.
Over the years, the various gardens in the Wellcome Estate in SW7 have won awards from: The London Gardens' Society; The London Squares Garden Competition; the Brighter K & C Scheme.
The South Kensington Estate now stretches to 56 acres of which almost a third is laid to garden.
OSRA has a gardens committee which works in collaboration with the managing agents to agree planting schemes, rules of garden usage, security and other matters.
Residents are not allowed to hold parties or similar gatherings in the Square but there is one annual event permitted by the Trust as an exception to this rule. The Onslow Neighbourhood Association Garden Party takes place every year around midsummer, this year on 25th June, early in the evening. There is live music as well as some excellent canapes and refreshments - but most of all there is the chance to meet your fellow residents of Onslow Square.
